What is a Hard Reload?

In today's digital world, we spend a lot of time on the Internet, and sometimes problems occur that are caused by the browser caching data. Updating a web page can then be difficult, as the browser may use the cached data instead of loading the latest version of the web page. Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem: the so-called Hard Reload (also known as Hard Refresh or Cache Refresh). In this blog post, we explain the keyboard shortcuts for hard reload in different browsers and operating systems.

Windows operating systems

Google Chrome

Ctrl + F5: This forces a hard reload of the current page by clearing the cache and re-downloading all resources.

Mozilla Firefox

Ctrl + Shift + R: With this key combination you can hard refresh the current page in the Firefox browser.

Microsoft Edge

Ctrl + F5: Similar to Google Chrome, this key combination causes a hard reload of the current page in the Microsoft Edge browser.

macOS operating systems

Google Chrome

Command + Shift + R: This forces a hard reload of the current page by clearing the cache and re-downloading all resources.

Mozilla Firefox

Command + Shift + R: With this key combination you can hard refresh the current page in the Firefox browser.

Safari

Command + Alt + R: Use this key combination to bypass the cache and reload a web page in the Safari browser on macOS.
