Why Mate is delivering Value again and again

Interview with Andreas Tepel

by

Moritz Retemeier

We met our CTO Andreas in an interview and asked him a few questions.

Hi Andreas, what do you think are the most important points in software development?

"If I had to limit myself to three points, I would say: structure, experience and the openness to learn new things. But there are very very many things important in developing good software!"

So would you say that you are never really done with development?

"I would go so far to say that anyone who thinks they have learned everything has not yet begun to understand the subject."

Why do you think the continuous development of software is so important?

"Because the subject is developing so fast. There are some very bright people in the scene who are constantly helping to improve standards and develop new ideas and frameworks. In addition, the hardware is also developing, of course, and with it the possibilities that you have to make your software run performantly. I'll just say the buzzword of 2023: AI."

What would happen if you stopped working on Mate today?

"First of all, I would be very sad. Apart from that, probably nothing would happen, because I'm not the only one who contributes to our product. If we all stopped developing, eventually customers would start asking when new features we've been promising for a long time are coming. I honestly don't want to think much further than that."

What are the latest features of Mate?

"We've expanded our team in the last few months and built a lot of great things. Some of them you can see right out front and some that made Mate even better on the inside. The biggest feature was definitely the folder structure for assets, which now allows you to sort and manage your images even better, so you always have the right image for the new post by hand."

What else is planned for the future?

"There is a lot planned! We are always in close communication with our customers about how we can make Mate even better. In the coming months we will be launching many features that will make it even easier for our customers to create great content in their corporate design. These include features that make it easier to communicate in Mate as a team, but also some other topics such as integrating videos into posts. It definitely remains very exciting and I don't want to give too much away here yet!"

Thank you Andreas for the open and honest interview and the great insights behind the scenes of the software development of Mate.
